Lutheran Senior Services Expands Home and Community Based Services through Acquisition of New Horizons PACE Program

February 22, 2024, St. Louis, Missouri – Lutheran Senior Services (LSS) is excited to expand its Home and Community Based Services with the acquisition of the New Horizons Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) from St. Louis-based senior living provider Christian Horizons.

“PACE is an innovative, well-respected service delivery model for aging adults that operates across the United States. We’re excited to extend our services through the only PACE program in the St. Louis metro region,” said Adam Marles, LSS President and CEO. “The acquisition aligns with our vision to equip adults 60+ to stay as independent as possible, wherever they call home, and supports our strategy to expand our Home and Community Based Services.”

LSS provides housing, care, and supportive services for more than 13,000 older adults each year and employs over 2,800 team members across Missouri and Illinois.

“We have proudly supported seniors through New Horizons PACE for many years, and we’re confident that our clients will be well cared for by Lutheran Senior Services, another faith-based organization who shares our commitment to providing quality care,” said Kate Bertram, CEO at Christian Horizons. “This decision simply made sense for both organizations and our future priorities.”

PACE is a national Medicare-, Medicaid- and Private Pay-funded program with an alternative care model that provides home-based, long-term medical, social, and personal care needs to income and level-of-care qualified older adults. This care model also includes a community-based component designed to help older adults safely and successfully age-in-place, with a greater focus on prevention and wellness.

“This acquisition represents a completely new service for LSS. Our strong financial foundation will enable us to grow program enrollment and provide PACE clients access to LSS’ continuum of care, including affordable housing, home-based services, private duty, and other assistance through Aging Answers,” added Marles. “This furthers our mission to create places, services, and opportunities for people to age well with purpose and fulfillment.”

Like the recent addition of St. Louis Home Health (SLHH), New Horizons PACE complements the services of LSS Home and Community Based Services.

Under LSS, New Horizons PACE will continue to offer all-inclusive services both at-home and in the adult day health center, including the healthcare clinic and laboratory services to address participants’ primary care needs as well as access to nurse care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
