Lutheran Senior Services Nets 5 Awards from LeadingAge Missouri 2022

Awards recognize outstanding contributions in aging field

September 26, 2022, St. Louis, Missouri – Lutheran Senior Services (LSS) wins five awards from LeadingAge Missouri, the largest number awarded in 2022 by the trade association which serves not-for-profit senior living providers in Missouri. The 2022 Awards Program recognizes individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions in the fields of aging, health care, housing, and community-based services.

2022 Award of Honor, E. Willis Piehl Award: Garry Anderson, Chief Operating Officer
Anderson was honored with LeadingAge Missouri’s highest award. It is presented to one who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of senior services in Missouri that is exceptional, exemplary and has an impact beyond the community served. Anderson was awarded for his Emergency Prepared Task Force oversight and being a pioneer in the field and region with a requirement that all LSS employees be vaccinated against COVID-19.

2022 Employee of the Year Award: Client Services: Kelly Peterson, Breeze Park
Peterson was presented with this award as one who has made an outstanding contribution and demonstrated unusual commitment to preserve the dignity, well-being, and independence of older Missourians and/or adults with disabilities. She is known for embodying the key components of LSS core values, including having a generous heart, putting people first, and providing service excellence every day.

2022 Volunteer of the Year Award: Mary Anne Wehrle, Meramec Bluffs Resident
Heroes rise to the occasion, and Wehrle is one of our great LSS heroes, whose volunteer efforts earned her this award, presented to a volunteer who has performed significant volunteer service to clients or residents and has demonstrated unusual commitment to preserve the dignity, well-being and independence of clients or members. Through her relentless dedication to others, no chore is too small, and no burden is too great. Wehrle has risen to every occasion, serving as “Mayor” of Meramec Bluffs, using her registered nursing skills to support the COVID response effort, and being integral to making every celebration a special event.

2022 Visionary Award: Servi and the Mason Pointe team
Servi, a robot used to support dining services at the Mason Pointe Life Plan Community, was recognized as a creative new service that is “ahead of its time” and serves as a model of innovation within the continuum of aging services. LSS is the first Life Plan Community in the St. Louis area to implement such technology.

2022 Distinguished Service Award: Aging Answers: Lisa Norwine, Michelle Wamser, Carol Pellerito, Donna Adams, and Shonda Smith
Aging Answers was recognized for making an outstanding contribution to the welfare of the older adults by providing such support as food, transportation, medical equipment, guidance on benefits processes, and guidance on many other aging-related needs.
