Phil King awarded the 2022 Leadership in Action Award.

May 27, 2022, Peoria, Illinois

LeadingAge Illinois honored Lutheran Senior Services’ Phil King, Lutheran Hillside Village Director of Stewardship, with the 2022 Leadership in Action Award. This award is given to an individual whose actions and leadership greatly enhance the work environment and the quality of life for their colleagues and residents.

King has dedicated more than 34 years of service at Lutheran Hillside Village, leading many successful fundraising campaigns and making friends wherever he goes. Most recently, he led a $6 million campaign to build a Wellness Center for the community. In addition to the facility and equipment, the community was also able to add two full-time wellness staff members to work with residents in all levels of living

“Helping residents stay healthy is our top priority and the Wellness Center has helped us do this,” said Shelly Heiden, Executive Director, Lutheran Hillside Village.

Amenities at the center include an indoor saltwater pool, fitness and exercise rooms, a walking track, culinary arts kitchen, community room, a medical clinic, and a theatre.

King’s collaborative style of leadership has resulted in trusting and respectful relationships with Lutheran Hillside Village residents. “The areas were named after the donors. The donor who funded the walking track thinks so much of him that she named the walking track after him rather than after herself,” said Heiden.
