Jr. Blues Bring Noodle Hockey to Concordia Village – Residents take the win!

When it comes to Noodle Hockey, the Springfield Jr. Blues learned that residents of Concordia Village, a Lutheran Senior Services (LSS) Life Plan Community in Springfield, Illinois, are pretty serious competitors.

The Springfield Jr. Blues, a local D1 hockey league made up of 17 to 21-year-olds from all over the United States, Canada, Russia, Sweden, and more, came to Concordia Village for a friendly game of Noodle Hockey recently. Concordia Village residents, “Sr. Blues,” performed well and went away with a 15-13 win!

Mary Dehen, Assisted Living resident, had a great time with the team. “I liked showing people what we can do at our age,” she said. “We had so much fun. They looked like they had a good time as well. And we beat them!”

James Callahan, Captain of the Jr. Blues, said that they visited Concordia Village to create some opportunities for team bonding and to have fun with the residents.

“This is a great experience for the team by giving back to the community in a different way then we have before,” he said.

The participation level of the residents took the Jr. Blues by surprise. “It was not at all what we expected. We had so much fun,” said James. “The residents really got into it. It was a lot of fun! We are so happy we came!”

“I think we surprised them by how good we were,” added Mary.
