Move-In Resources: Support for Every Step of Your Move

Any move can be filled with stress or complications. Where do you start? Who do you trust? With a move to a Lutheran Senior Services community, there’s a special support system just for you called the Move-in Resources Team! This unique resource provides access to a team with years of experience helping people successfully transition to a Life Plan Community.

“People breathe a sigh of relief and realize they are not alone when they find out all the help that is available,” said Karen Bernstetter, an LSS Move-In Resources Specialist.

Move-In Resources specialists can help from start to finish – managing closure at the previous residence while designing a new home for maximum comfort and safety. Measuring furniture, drafting floorplans, negotiating with movers, vetting vendors, playing referee with family, Move-In Resources specialists do it all!

“One of the big things I hear from future resident is, ‘Wow you do all that?’” said Ashley Herrera, LSS Move-In Resources Specialist. Recently, Ashley met with a woman who was overwhelmed by the process of moving. After explaining all the ways that Move-In Resources could help, the woman cried with joy and said, “I didn’t think I could do the move. I prayed for God to send me a rescue ship and I think you’re the ship!”

Jim and Alice McLaughlin, new residents of Meramec Bluffs, an LSS Life Plan Community in Ballwin, Mo. appreciated the collaboration between Move-In Resources and the sales team to facilitate their recent move. “Having Shelby and Alana with us made our transition to Meramec Bluffs so much easier,” they said.

Shelby Cox, Senior Living Counselor at Meramec Bluffs, and Alana Grimshaw, Move-In Resources Specialist, managed every step of the process. As Shelby worked on details at Meramec Bluffs, Alana was at the McLaughlin’s house to help ease the challenges of downsizing and moving.  “She was a wonderful surprise to our move!”

After gathering room dimensions of their home at Meramec Bluffs, she helped them to develop a floor plan, working through several versions until they were happy. They reviewed how they could repurpose their existing furniture, and what wouldn’t fit. “We then could sort what we needed to keep and what needed to go,” Jim said.

Alana organized interviews with movers and real estate agents and helped ensure the move and house sale went smoothly. “We are advocates for them. It’s hard to Google someone and know who to trust. We have a preferred vendor list based on experience and we want to protect our residents from getting swindled,” said Alana.

Move-In Resources support didn’t end there. On move-in day the McLaughlins were pleased to find a copy of their floor plan in their new Meramec Bluffs home so they could direct the movers in placing furniture. Alana followed up several times after the move just to see if there was anything else she could do.

“Having Alana help us with the moving process reduced the stress of figuring out what to do, when to do it, and who would do it,” they said. “No other retirement center we looked at offered this level of assistance. Well done to Meramec Bluffs and thanks to Shelby and Alana for their great help!”
